No human in all of history has been more influential in the spread of the message of Christ than the Apostle Paul. In fact, some go so far as to say that if you could discredit Paul, you would discredit all of Christianity. In this course, we will be studying Paul's life and teaching, placing him in the context of his time and culture. You will gain not only a better insight into his revolutionary teachings, but you will find out what made the man tick. Why was he so adamant about his "go to the wall" issue? Why was he so passionate about grace and why did he have such a heart for the poor? How would he have reacted to James's writings? How could he turn an accommodating eye to those who preach Christ for wrong reasons while at the same time emphasize the need for right doctrine? What did he make such a big deal about grace, not only for salvation, but also for daily living? In this course, you will begin to understand his writings in the context and chronology of his three missionary journeys and in the millieu of the ancient Roman and Greek cultures. You will come to understand why F.F. Bruce calls him the "Apostle of the Heart Set Free." |
